I am an English major at the University of Maryland, with a double major in Spanish and Creative Writing. As a student with big dreams of becoming a screenwriter or producer for television, I believe that society leads the development of technology.

Surely, we adapt to inventions and change our behavior. With constant access to laptops, tablets, and smartphones, we change the way we interact with others and how we gain knowledge and information. However, these technologies would not have been invented if society did not demand improvement. The world consists of millions of geniuses, all with different booming ideas about how to speed up communication, entertain strangers, and make profits. When one person has an idea, they immediately begin searching for a device that allows them to share this idea and make it concrete. A screenwriter needs top of the line videography and photography that will make his words come to life on the screen. A mathematician who solves a formula by hand will request a system that files his numbers. Individuals find the breakthroughs, and technology allows us to organize these ideas and research further. Credit goes to society for it's creativity, and technology acts as the medium that connects the idea to the product.
